Also, there are a few things that you can do to fix that doorway. We put up a screen in to separate the dining room from the living room and the kitchen from the dining room. They first two are sort of one long room and the kitchen is just there and we didn't want to look at it while we were eating. We accomplished this with Japanese style screens. They divide the rooms just enough without being over kill.
For the walls, we have found Dali Decals. They have some amazing pieces that require a little work to put up, but end up with amazing results. The bigger pieces are quite pricey, but there are some really nice affordable options too.
Of course, posters work nicely. I like to put my posters in frames so that they are really awesome looking and don't get trashed by hangers. All of my Saiyuki calendar are in frames...but I have yet to explain my gigantic Sephiroth wall scroll. Hey, I was in Japan...it was there...I had to have it!
