Woo Finance: Student Loan Edition
I'd like to spend $6,000 I don't have on school this year. You may have noticed that number doubled since the last time I started talking about money for school. That's because the 29-credit certificate I'm aiming to get will actually take 3 quarters due to prereqs (there are 19 introductory credits you need to take CLA1, which you need to take CLA2). So I figure, as long as I have to take the time, I might as well get a phlebotomy certificate and take extra courses like pharmacology and medical law.
Normally I'd be really, really uncomfortable with the idea of borrowing money, but $6,000 is a small loan. According to the company I'm looking at borrowing from, even if my credit score is poor (which I think it is, considering I haven't done much of anything to build credit) my minimum payments would be less than $100 per month - that is, if I wanted to take 20 months to pay back what I borrowed. I'd probably do it quicker.
The plan, then, would be to take some time off school after this year and focus on working to pay back this money. It wouldn't take that long, even if I only landed a part time job.
Yep... I think this may be a sound plan.

Hahaha, what, me, buy a nice car? That probably won't happen. Even if it would be good for building credit, and I could afford it. My dream ride is an old truck with a manual transmission and as little that would potentially make an expensive repair if it were to break as possible. Ideally I'd like to do all the maintenance myself. And, in the event of the zombie apocalypse, I'd like to mount a wood chipper on the front and a chain gun on the roof.
This career move is just a stepping stone so I can gain some experience and have an easier time paying for yet more school, and an easier time getting away from home again. Definitely not where I want to stay for the rest of my life, but probably one of the smartest places I can go from here. So yeah, I agree, no reason not to do it :) and it'll be something I can put on my resume and app to UW in the future. I'm just kicking myself for not getting these certificates while I was in high school, when the credits wouldn't have cost me anything ~_~ I wish things like planning and foresight would have been in my repertoire as a teenager.

And yeah, it's wild huh? that's an AVERAGE car payment, NICE cars are like 500 a month! It's CRAZY.
Good luck with your schooling. If you ever need a cheerleader, I'm totally there for you

It's weird how I hear 'x amount of dollars per month for a car' and think 'OH MY GOD, NO WAY' but I hear 'hey look, new smart phone! buy it!' and I'm like 'YES.' Okay, granted we're talking about very different dollar amounts, but still.
And thanks again for that ♥ It really is incredibly helpful.
